Crazy for Bargains with a Giveaway

Goddess Garden with a Giveaway

While it may feel like Summer is almost over you still need sunscreen, until at least the end of September and then don't forget about traveling!  I think that its pretty hard to find sunscreen in December if you are holidaying somewhere hot!  I always stock up on sunscreen at the end of Summer for the next year.  You don't want to be without and we go through so much!  Its nice to find on sale this time of year.  Its usually also good for a few years so its not going to go bad before the next Summer!

When I spoke with Goddess Gardens I was pretty excited to try out their natural sunscreen.  Some that I have tried in the past are thick white and mostly zinc so they don't rub in at all and you end up looking quite ridiculous and then frankly I just end up throwing it out.  I don't want to look white and neither do my kids so if that's natural sunscreen I don't want it.

This past Easter was our first camping trip of the season and it was a huge success!  We have decided to make it a family tradition and do it every year.  We went with Kris's Mom and all his Sisters, their partners and kids!  It was so fun and if you ask the kids what the best part was it was the Kinder eggs that Granny got them all.  Even for baby Mickayla who was only a few months old at the time.  She not only got them all Kinder eggs but they were Toy Story Kinder eggs which had to be the coolest thing ever according to the kids!

They each had a treat and a toy that they played with ALL day and most of them still have it!  They all love Toy Story so this was amazing, a nice yummy (peanut free) yes I just said that - and an awesome toy!  Do you have any great memories of giving your kids a Kinder egg and how it was just the best thing ever to them?  My first bit of fun info from Kinder is that they are coming out with new bigger and better toys for 2012!!  You can get a glimpse of some of the new toys here!!

Coupons

I love coupons, so much so that I got a little photo album at the dollar store and filled it with coupons!  Today at the store Kristina kept asking why I was buying almost everything I put in the cart, "do you have a coupon for that?"

Annoying of her but totally true!  I love to save as much as I can.  We only make so much money every month so why not spend as little as you can?  There are so many places to get coupons!  You can like your favorite product companies on facebook for coupons, check your local paper, there are usually great ones in there.  You can also check out Life Made Delicious for some awesome coupons!  Also if they sign up for their newsletter there will be some awesome coupons coming out shortly!  You can sign up for the newsletter here!

I took a little vacation!

I took a much needed break this last weekend and it was AMAZING!!!  It was so needed and well deserved, well according to me lol!  Kris's grandparents sold us their 5th wheel a month or so ago and we have been itching to use it.  We finally had a weekend booked off and were ready to roll!  We decided to go down island to Qualicum where there is a really nice campsite that has a waterslide!  I remember going their as a kid, for lots of day trips and camping once.  I had some amazing memories of this place and wanted to do the same with my kids!

The kids were pretty excited to go and we were also taking my nephews along with us, they are 6 months older and 6 months younger than Brandon so they make excellent playmates!  We spent a lot of time playing, relaxing, swimming, sleeping, and of course swimming and watersliding!  My arms were pretty tired from catching all three kids on the waterslide, they went on the small one and Kristina and her dad got to rock out on the big one. 

This was one of the first activities we have done that Kristina at 8 and Brandon at 3 have both had the best time at.  Usually one has a better time than the other with the ages but this was perfect.  I definitely want to go again.  Camping in a 5th wheel was like a little slice of heaven.  No tents to take down, no worry or rain, and when it did, we could still cook and have fun because we weren't wet and freezing.

Dyson Air Multiplier

With Summer arriving later than normal this year I wasn't as worried about getting a good fan this year but when the heat hits, it hits hard!  When it hits hard you would do just about anything to stay cool, I know I will anyways!  Personally I have always hated those round fans that get so filthy, you can't really clean them, and they are so loud!  I can't stand how unsafe they are, I was always a wreck when my kids were little around them and didn't stay any cooler because I was up and down just as much keeping my babies away!

The Dyson air multiplier AM03 Pedestal fan is a lifesaver!  Its much quieter than the old style fans, not silent but way more quiet.  I love how easy it is to clean, you just wipe if off with a damp cloth, there are no nooks and crannies to get filled with dust and it looks great.  Its very modern looking but I don't see how it would be tacky looking anytime in the next 10 years at least so its definitely an investment.  They are fully adjustable, forward and backwards tilt, rotating and non rotating as well as the different speeds they have.  My other favorite feature is that it comes with a remote control!  I love that if I need to turn it up, down or turn on or off the rotating then I don't even have to get up.

Its so easy to put together my 3 year old nephew helped me.  You just click all of the pieces together and in under 10 minutes, and with no frustration I might add, its together and you are cooling off.  Super easy to operate as well, I often find myself asking Brandon at 3 if he can turn it on or off and he loves it.  He can put his face right in front of it and feel all the nice cool air hit him right in the face and I don't have to worry about him getting hurt at all!  The worst he could do is knock it over and hey, I should be watching him right!

At $549 the Dyson AM03 pedestal air multiplier fan is an investment for sure but you aren't getting a fan you are going to want to throw out after one Summer!  This is a fan you can have out all year, we have a woodstove going in the Winter so this will be great to push around all of our hot air as well!  Also if all you need is a desk fan they are all $100 off right now making this a great time to pick one up!  Check them all out here!

Fresh Summer berries!

We love to pick berries!  As soon as school is out we are picking strawberries, although with all the rain in BC this "Summer" we didn't get as many as I would have liked!  Then its onto raspberries and blueberries!  I like to just flash freeze all of our berries the same day as we pick organic untreated berries so they need to be processed the same day.  Flash freezing if you don't know if just laying all of the berries with all stems removed on a cookie sheet in one layer and freezing for about 30 mins until partly frozen and then I dump them into a large Ziploc bag, this was they don't all stick together.

Because its usually so hot in the Summer I tend to make all of my jams in September or October when its a bit cooler out and just thaw out the berries and have a jam day or two!  This year my Sister in Law and Mother in Law went up to Kelowna for two weeks and brought back 20 lbs each of cherries and peaches!  I would have loved to can up some peaches but with all of us on the property and all of our families they all got eaten up!  I did however get to can about 15 lbs of cherries!  I was going to make cherry pie filling to make pies and for cheesecake toppings for the rest of the year but you need something called clear gel to make it so I couldn't and was bummed!

I decided to just do good old cherry jam!  I don't own a cherry pitter because I haven't actually made anything with cherries before, we usually just eat them all up.  Of course instead of getting one I just figured it wouldn't be that bad and pitted them by hand.  Holy man that was so much work!  Trust me when I tell you to invest the $10 and buy one!!  My fingers were dark purple for about 3 or 4 full days.  It was crazy but the jam is sooooooo good it was worth it!  I have shared it all over the property and everyone said that they loved it!  A lot of sugar went into it but at least I know what else went into our jam!

I am pretty bummed that I didn't think to take any pictures while I was making it so you are just going to have to use your imagination :)

Skin Free has been on Fun and Funky Mommy before and we are big fans!  The moisturizer is amazing and a favorite of mine!  It moisturizes so well and isn't greasy at all.  Its in a nice sized jar and lasts a really long time, you only need a little and it really goes a long way! 

The pink clay mask is also great!  That was a new thing for me to try out this time around and its great!  I love to be able to use it with Kristina and Brandon, we can also use it together as a fun new bedtime ritual with the kids.  They love being able to so something that usually just for Mommy and being able to do it with me!  I love that its not hard on their skin or mine and that its totally safe to use!  Not hard on my skin at all and helps to keep it nice and clean and smooth and just leaves it with that clean feeling!

The other great thing that I was able to review was the new deodorant!  Its new out so its not even on the site yet!  I loved it, the first time I tried it I was working for the day, and when I work I work hard!  I ran, well walked quickly, all day and put it to the test.  It worked very well and I was pretty happy with it.  The only thing that I didn't love about it was the scent.  I am not a huge fan of the scent in it but that's something that I can get over because its an all natural deodorant and that's more important to me than a scent!

Fijit Friends

When we were given the opportunity to host a Fijit Friends party with Kristina and her friends she couldn't have been more thrilled!  We received two Fijits to play with, one to keep and one to giveaway at the party, and she was in love right away!  Her and her brother were playing with them all the time and taking them everywhere with them.

Fijits are the only interactive robotic BFFs who dance, recognize your voice, and tell funny jokes! Poke ‘em, squeeze ‘em, or turn ‘em into dancing machines!!  They are soft and tactile and have a squeezable body that feels really neat!  You can listen to, and interact with their jokes, tell them how you are feeling, dance with them and they can dance to your music or theirs! 

They are a lot of fun and all the kids that came to the party loved them!  Even the parents thought they were cool.  I have to say when the kids were on the trampoline afterwards my Sister in Law and I were playing with the Fijit with my 6 month old niece and we were all having a great time!  This will definitely be a must have on Holiday wish lists this year, I can see this being one of those sold out everywhere, everyone wants it kind of toys!

What we found with the Fijit was that if there was a lot of background noise, like Brandon screaming on the other side of the room the Fijit had a harder time hearing what you were saying, the same thing was happening if it had low batteries.  It was so fun and cute though.  We all loved talking to it, listening to its funny jokes, very kid friendly, and Kristina's favorite part, other than having a dancing buddy was that it would lean in for a kiss!

Umi with a giveaway

We are huge Umi lovers over here!  Not only are they a very high quality shoe, super cute but not cutesy, and actually have big kid sizes (all the way up to a kids size 6) they are am amazing company to work with!  They sponsor many reviews and giveaways on blogs, are huge on Facebook and always giving away lots of shoes, and seem like real truly nice and kind people!

We love working with Umi and the kids both love their shoes.  I usually end up hearing from Kristina all about how her shoes hurt her feet and that she can't find shoes that she likes etc but she loved her Umi boots last year.  They still look brand new, and she never complained about them hurting her feet.  They are made with real leather so they help conform right to your child's foot. 

Brandon has also had a few pairs of Umi shoes and has loved all of them.  They are easy for him to put on and take off, which at 3 is very important!  They have held up so well and some are ready to be passed onto another little boy to continue to love!  For review this time around I choose to get Brandon a pair of Reeves boots for the Fall.  He loves wearing boots like his dad and these just look so cute and they will go with everything from jeans to cords and everything else in between!  He already wants to wear them but its just to hot right now!  I can't wait to see him strutting around in these this Fall!

Huge Bic $100 back to school giveaway

Does typing out thoughts or making lists on the computer seem logical? Do you retain and remember conversations in a meeting or class if they are handwritten rather than typed? Even in this digital age, leading research reveals that writing information by hand, on paper enhances comprehension and retention better than typing on a keyboard.

“When we write, even before we write, we are putting thought into evaluating the information that we are receiving,” says Dr. Steve Graham, a published author and the Currey Ingram Professor of education at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee.  “That process of putting pen to paper helps retain ideas more firmly in our minds, leading to greater recall at a later time.”

A recent national study of adults by BIC, conducted by Canadian Omnibus, confirms that when Canadians write down notes in a meeting, class or somewhere else, they tend to remember the information better with handwritten notes (83%). The survey also revealed that 62% of Canadians actually prefer to hand write with pen and paper when studying for school, preparing notes for a presentation at work or just jotting down

thoughts or making lists.

I am always jotting down notes and lists and only do it by hand.  I have a grocery list on top of the fridge and am always adding to it when I run out of something and know before I go to the store to grab my list!  How would I know what groceries to get if my list was on my computer?  I guess you could print it but that seems like a big waste!

I got to try out some of the new BIC velocity pens and the ink is nice and dark and writes so smoothly.  My hubby ripped into the package right away as the pens we currently had were not working well at all.  These are our new go to pens, I will definitely buy more but these will last a lot longer than our last ones I am sure!

Dragonfly Soaps with a Giveaway

I started making natural soap because I love to CREATE and soapmaking fulfills many levels of my creative expression. I can use my hands, my head and my heart in the soapmaking process and...to me the process is calming to the soul.

I love the TECHNICAL part of soapmaking - Understanding the chemical process of what happens when you mix a base and an acid together, researching ingredients, calculating ratios of saponification values of fats and oils, mixing them together and making something completely new from them.

I love the SENSUAL part of soapmaking - Experimenting with and mixing up scents using my imagination and intuition, taking cues from conversations, the written word and wiffs in the air wherever I may be. The aromatherapy value in the shower or bath. The silky feel of a wet bar of One Summer Night or the visual appeal of the color and texture of Exotic Earth or Triple Chocolate Mint when wet and worn slightly down from use...Okay, you can call me weird here if you like but you won't know till you try it!

I love the VALUE TO COMMUNITY that soapmaking provides and the potential it could provide in the future - A good luxurious bar of natural soap, useful and made from simple ingredients, cut by hand and expertly trimmed and beautifully wrapped, sometimes even hand delivered when possible. I love running a small business as opposed to a large corporation. As we grow we will model our business structure after a new paradigm. One that is people oriented, where employees are seen not as automatons, but as people with families with obligations. A business with a sense of community within and out.

Well I had a pretty hard time choosing the soaps for us to review, really I could have used each and everyone of them!  I was pretty happy that not only did they look so good they smelled so good when we got them!  We ripped into the package right at the mailbox and Kristina didn't sound so thrilled when I told her it was soap.  She sure changed her tune though as soon as I passed her a bar of triple chocolate mint soap.  She wanted to go straight home and hot right into the shower.  We sniffed the soap all the way home, its a good thing its all natural! 

There are a few different categories of soap to choose from

• Unscented Soap - Our Cocoa Butter and Baby Soaps are wonderfully simple and totally fragrance free.
• Workhorse Soap - Our Shaving Soap, Gardener's Soap and other functional bars each have a specific purpose for a specific cleansing need.
• Almost Edibles Soap - So fragrant, you'll want to bite them, this scented soap collection has a bar for every taste.
• Earthy and Mysterious Soap - Superfatted shea butter soaps with unique, evocative fragrances that celebrate the mystique of life on Earth.
•  Lavender and Flowers Soap - The floral peace and goodness of blooming gardens, captured in these hand made herbal soaps.

I couldn't help to choose from the Almost Edibles Soap category!  It was hard not to try and just have a taste, well it wasn't when I was remembering that it was soap, but it smelled good enough to eat!  I am sure Brandon would have eaten it if I had offered it to him lol!  We got the Triple Chocolate Mint soap and the Peppermint Ice Soap and loved them both!  They lathered up really easily, rinsed clean, and smelled amazing right until the end.  They were a great size, sometimes good soaps are small but these are a great size and have a very good price!

I would definitely recommend this soap to everyone!  You just might be able to tell your friends about how amazing it is if you win this giveaway!  One of you will win any 3 bars of soap from Dragonfly soaps!
