Strawberry season has arrived!

I just got an email this week from my local go to Strawberry picking farm that the season is open and the strawberry's are ready for picking!  My kids are crazy for fruit so we are always picking up more from the store, if we can pick it up locally, the happier I am!  Local berries taste 10 times better than the ones from another county and are usually organic!

We love to pick all sorts of berries but strawberries are my favourite for making things with.  There are so many great strawberry recipes out there and I am thinking I am going to try out a strawberry crumble with some raspberries and blueberries thrown in!

I always make strawberry jam with our picked berries, we have a big pig out session that day, because they don't last as long as store bought and then I throw a big bag or two in the freezer for fresh yummy smoothies all year.  My kids, and hubby, are big smoothie drinkers so we always pick extra of each type of fruit we are picking just for saving for smoothies!  Oh and I think I am going to try to make some strawberry popsicles, those would be yummy and so easy!

OKA b. Footwear

The Original Shoes that Love You

Where The Spa Meets the Street...

OKA b. is founded on the principle that fashion and comfort should never be mutually exclusive. Imagine a shoe that not only looks great with every outfit but feels great with every step. A sandal given the thumbs up by your doctor and your best friend. A slide that matches your wedding gown and massages your feet as you dance down the aisle. A flip-flop so stylish it's featured in fashion magazines. A shoe that's 100% recyclable, waterproof, made in the USA and priced under $40.

I was sent this pair of nice simple black slides for work.  I love flip flops and these are cute and fun like the flip flops I love but they have something else that is a must have for me!  Support!  I don't care how cute a shoe is, if it doesn't have proper support I can't wear it.  I have never been able to squish my giant, size 10, and wide, feet into cute little pointed toed heels, although I would love to.

The shoes from OKA b. are not a wide shoe so they aren't the perfect shoe for me but they are not by any means narrow.  I just have really wide feet lol.  Other than that they are very comfortable and I could be on my feet all day in these shoes!  They are also made of a different material.  They are not typical rubber, they are very very flexible and almost like a bouncy ball, if you can picture that lol.  I would definitely recommend these shoes and will be picking up another pair if they come out with a wide version!

OKA b. has a large women's line and even some men's sandals as well.  Be sure to check them out and feed your shoe addiction :)

Green Beaver with a Giveaway

A hot topic, always, is safe skin care for your most precious family members, your kids! When Kristina was a baby I used whatever was on sale at the grocery store, but now I have moved to using organic and more natural products. I don't spend hours searching the Internet trying to find the lowest ratings on websites and finding out everything about everything. I am kind of middle of the road. I would prefer to use organic and natural when possible but don't loose sleep if I have to use something that's not :)

Green Beaver is the largest natural, eco-friendly and organic certified (EcoCert) product line in Canada!Green Beaver does their research for you so that you don't have to! Their products are all certified organic and natural! Best of all, they work great!!

We got to try out some toothpaste, shampoo, detangler, and bubble bath! I was very happy with the toothpaste, well more like Brandon was. We usually just use minty toothpaste and Brandon always finds it to hot no matter what kind we buy so we just don't use much, and get it done fast but its not fun. Now with this Green Beaver toothpaste in orange, tooth brushing time has just gotten a whole lot better, he actually comes running when I call him to do his teeth instead of running the other way. It works great on his teeth and tastes good, apparently ;)

Kristina uses a detangler every morning. I am more concerned about a detangler working than its ingredients, that's how bad her hair is! Lucky for us Green Beaver was both, worked great, and of course was natural, the only thing Kristina didn't like about it was the smell, it didn't smell delicious which is big for her apparently lol. The shampoo was great and bubble bath was awesome. That's another one of those things that are hard to find for sensitive skin, which of course both of my kids have! I will definitely be picking up more of these great products in the future!

Green Beaver has a sunscreen as well and although I didn't get to try it out I have heard nothing but good things about it and I think I will be picking some up.  Be sure to let me know if you have tried it and love it or not!

We have a great giveaway from Green Beaver for my US readers!  They have offered up 1 Green Apple Toothpaste, 1 Jr. Shampoo, 1 Jr. Conditioning Detangler, and 1 Bubble Bath!

Old Navy gets kids ready for Summer Camp

Well Kristina only has one and a half days of school left.  I am so excited!  I am not the mom who dreads Summer vacation, although sometimes I sure do wonder what the heck we are going to do everyday :)  Because I work 3 nights a week and all weekend outside the house I don't get to spend as much time with Kristina as I would like.  I am sure there will be drama and at some points I will be wishing her back to school but overall I can't wait!

We don't do Summer camps but we do go camping, and lots of day trips to the beach and park so Old Navy was kind enough to send us some goodies to help out!  Kristina got a new backpack, plastic sandwich holder, water bottle, towel and more!  She was so thrilled with it all that she quickly dumped out her school backpack and filled up her new one with all of her school goodies!

The water bottle has a nice ice holder on the inside that you fill with water and freeze so that when you throw it in the water bottle it helps to keep the water cold all day!  Its also bright pink which makes her happy.  The sandwich holder is cute to.  Its shaped like a sandwich which is awesome because then it holds sandwich's perfectly, they don't move around at all :)

If you are going to be putting your kids in Summer camp this year you should definitely check out Old Navy for the goodies that you need, they are all at great prices!  From the essential tees to the warm sweaters down to the pajamas and flip flops, and don't forget to pack extra undies and socks ;)  Be sure to check them out online as well, we can now order from Canada and I am loving it!!

Twooth Timer with a Giveaway

You really have to come up with fun ways to get kids to brush their teeth.  You don't often find kids that love to brush their teeth!  Although my kids are good about brushing their teeth and Kristina rarely needs to be reminded to brush, its still nice to make it more fun for them.

The Twooth Timer not only makes brushing your teeth more fun it also makes it so that you brush for the two minutes that you are supposed to brush for.  Its in the shape of a cute little tooth, and you twist it to the two so that you are setting it for two minutes. Its a nice size, not small and flimsy yet it doesn't take up a bunch of valuable counter space!  We got a little timer from the dentist last time we were there but Brandon broke it within a week.

This Twooth Timer is an awesome thing to have in your bathroom to help your kids brush longer and hopefully do a better job!  If you want one of these on your bathroom counter you can win one here along with some temporary tattoos!

To Enter:

Go to the Twooth Timer site and tell me something you learned!

Fathers Day with Disney Junior

What are your family's big plans for Fathers Day this year?  We are turning into a full on camping family and are taking our third camping trip of the season and its not even July yet!  Kris took a few days of vacation so that he could go fishing with his buddy and then his buddy's wife and I decided to join them with our kids and turn it into a fishing/camping weekend.  I don't know how excited Kris was when I told him but hes getting more and more excited the closer we get to it.

I still haven't decided what I am going to get him for Fathers Day, I am hoping to surprise him with something awesome while we are camping but that awesome things needs to come to me lol.  Maybe some sort of fishing gear. Hopefully he is reading this and will give me some sort of hint!

Disney Junior is going to be having a Father’s Day special on morning of June 19th. It will include new episodes of: Disney Imagination Movers and Disney Jake and the Never Land Pirates, PLUS Handy Manny's Motorcycle Adventure. I don't know about your little ones but Brandon loves Jake and the Never Land Pirates.  He watches it all the time and I am always PVRing it.

If you have Disney Junior on Demand then you can watch whatever shows you want when you want but if your like me and your provider doesn't have it you can always PVR the new episodes so that they are available whenever you need them!  If we were not camping we would definitely be snuggled up on the couch watching this so make sure that you tune in and if you can't just PVR it like us :)

A Giveaway from Life Made Delicious and General Mills worth $75! **Closed**

We are huge BBQ ers here. We BBQ pretty much year round, even in the rain, but not so much in the snow. Its a good thing it doesn't snow to much here! We eat a lot of meat, potatoes, rice and veggies for dinner because Kris is allergic to wheat. We don't eat many casseroles, buns obviously lol, pasta other than some rice spaghetti, or any sort of premade dishes. We have to eat basic simple foods, which isn't a bad thing as it seems to be a lot healthier than premade dishes and pastas and buns!

One of my favorite things to have on the BBQ, other than steak, is corn on the cob. We just tried this while we were camping last time and you take off all of the loose husks, but not all of them, you can just throw them all on the BBQ just like that. They don't need tinfoil or anything!  They are soooo good and so easy!  I love it.  You don't even need to boil water ;)  Check out these great BBQ recipes here!

Are you going to fire up the grill for Fathers Day next weekend?  We will be, we are going to pull Kristina out of school for Monday and Tuesday and go camping from Sunday morning.  Kris and his buddy are leaving to go fishing Friday night or Saturday morning and his wife and I and the kids are meeting them on Sunday morning until Wednesday morning to do some camping, fishing and boating.  I can't wait.  What a great way to spend Fathers Day weekend!  We are going to BBQ up some steaks and have a big old cesear salad to go along with it!

Do you have an easy recipe that you use all of the time in the Summer?  If you share it here you can be in to win an amazing prize pack from Life Made Delicious and General Mills that includes the following:

Barbecue Utensil Set
Paper Plates
Colourful Napkins

These great General Mills products:

Old El Paso
Cheerios (including Chocolate Cheerios!)

Sissy Little with a Giveaway **Closed**

I am a huge fan of decorating and redecorating. I can rearrange my house about every two months or so. I just get bored of how things look and want a change.  One of my favourite ways to change things up is to get some great wall decals and you can change the entire look of a room.  There are so many options out there for wall decals and you can find something you would love to have up in every room.  My favourite rooms to do are the kids rooms of course.  I love finding new and fun things for the kids rooms and we don't just stick with one theme.  We like to mix and match it up!

Kristinas room was already polka dotted and we wanted to add something else to make it a bit more personalized!  We decided to go and get Kristinas name done up in a wall decal to have as the focal point in her room.  She was pretty excited to pick it out from Sissy Little!  She got to choose what colors it came in and then when we put it up she got to decide weather she wanted it in a nice straight line or all fun and crooked like.

It was super easy to put up and at 8 years old she was able to help me very well.  She would decide where the decal would go, we pushed it into place on the wall together and then we both used the plastic card piece to push it all onto the wall.  Once I started pulling the corner she would pull the rest of the paper backing off, very carefully :)  She did awesome and we had a great time doing it and then of course some rearranging after :)

Sissy Little carries hundreds and hundreds of decals to choose from and there is more than one for everyone!  I challenge you to search through and not be able to find a single one!  Sissy Little has offered up ANY one decal (other than the 8 trees decal) to one very lucky winner!

Hot Activities Cool Treats

Here is the artice I wrote for the Disney Junior Canada site!!

Summer is officially around the corner. With a three-year-old son and an eight-year-old daughter it’s easy to say we love summer! Here are a few favourite activities that keep my kids happily occupied in the sun.

Hot Activities!

Take a flat white bed sheet and hang it on your fence. Let the kids loose with paints, brushes, hands and feet and they will create an amazing summer mural. Once it is done you can use it to create a summer fort in the back yard for a healthy lunchtime picnic. It is easier to get kids to eat healthy food if they help prepare it and can eat it in a fort they created.

All kids love bubbles. We put a special twist on this summer activity by adding food colouring to the soap and water mixture. My three year old loves to create these colourful bubbles and chase them around the yard. Tape some paper to your fence and have the kids blow the coloured bubbles onto to the paper. This will create a great background for other art projects.

My son loves the new Disney Junior show Jake and the Never Land Pirates. This summer we are going to create a treasure chest for our backyard. Take a shoebox and have the kids decorate it in a pirate theme. Take the new treasure chest on a treasure hunt around the back yard or park and have the kids fill it will all the interesting things they find. While the kids are distracted hide it somewhere in the yard or house and make a treasure map for them to follow. After a few days dress the kids in pirate gear and they with have a fun adventure looking for their hidden loot.

Who doesn’t remember having a pet rock when they were a kid? Share this great retro craft with your kids this summer. Start with a walk through some local trails and let the kids pick up some rocks with interesting shapes. Once you are home they can paint the rocks as people and animals.

Cool Treats!

After playing hard in the sun the kids and I have a great cool summer treat idea to share with you. These frozen yogurt pops are easy to make and healthier than store bought Popsicles.

1 cup thawed frozen orange juice
1 1/2 cup yogurt
1 tsp agave nectar (or honey)
1/2 tsp vanilla (or other flavouring)

Mix ingredients pour into Popsicle molds and freeze

Safety First!

Participating in all of these fun outdoor activities means you should always keep sun safety at the top of your mind. A great idea is to keep a beach bag full of sunscreen, hats, sunglasses, first aid essentials, bottled water and portable snacks ready all the time. You can use this in your own yard as well as quickly grab it for those spontaneous summer adventures around town.
