I was so excited for my Dyson to come and expected it to take a long time, but it came in less than a week! I had even swept my entire house the day before because I wasn't expecting it to come so fast. I was excited to put it together and vacuum right away so I abandoned whatever it was that I was doing and got down to work on putting it together.
I assumed that it would come in lots of pieces but it only came in 4 pieces and was a cinch to put together. You just attach the bottom brush bar, insert the handle, and put the attachment in its holder. It took me about 5 minutes because I didn't read the instructions and couldn't get the handle to go it, I was putting it in backwards.
Once it was together I got to work on vacuuming. Like I said I swept the whole house the day before so I wasn't expecting to pick up a lot. My house is small, two bedroom, one bath, and a finished attic. Its all tile and wood other than my bedroom so I used to only sweep every other day and then vacuum my room once in a while.
It was a little weird at first to vacuum with the ball when I was used to a big old heavy vacuum. After the first few times of vacuuming I was totally used to it and would never go back to a four wheeled vacuum. I was amazed at home much dirt and hair and dust it picked up since I had only swept the day before. I really wasn't expecting it to pick up much.
It is so easy to empty the canister, you just push a button and it detaches itself from the main part of the vacuum. You just take it over to the garbage and push the button again and it all dumps out. You can even remove the whole case around it and clean it all out even more if you want. I do that every few weeks.
The only maintenance that you do with the Dyson is washing the filters. I was nervous about doing it the first time but it really is quite simple. You open up the ball to remove that filter, and the other one is on top of the canister. They come out no problem and you just take them to the sink and run water through them and tap out all of the dirt and grease. Leave them to dry and then you can put them back in and you only need to do it once a month or so.
It was very easy to fit under my cupboards and great for maneuvering under the kitchen table and around all of my chairs. One feature that I love about it is that the handle comes off with the push of a button and you flip it around and reattach it upside down and it turns into a long wand that I use for reaching behind my TV, getting cobwebs off of the roof, behind the washer and dryer, and more.
I love that there are no bags to buy for Dyson's vacuums and that they are guaranteed for 5 years! If I am going to invest in a vacuum I want to know that the company is going to stand behind their product. A friend of mine actually had to send her Dyson back for repairs recently . She said you can really tell a good company when they already have your money and they still have great service and respect for their clients. I believe that Dyson truly is a great company.
I have loaned out my Dyson to a few people so far, everyone wants to try it! My one girlfriend needed it to clean her rugs because she has a dog that sheds a lot and her vacuum just doesn't get all of the hair out. She was very impressed. She has purchased so many vacuums and none of them do a very good job with the dog hair embedded in the carpet. I have had to take it back over a few more times so she can keep redoing her rugs.
I have had 3 or 4 vacuums in my life so far and haven't liked any of them for more than a few weeks. The suction doesn't work as well as when its new, they smell, and they blow the dirt around instead of picking it up. I have no complaints about my Dyson and in 10 or so years when it finally breaks down I will be buying another! The Dyson picks up everything and even has a HEPA filter and is certified Asthma and allergy friendly!
In October Dyson decided to contribute $50,000 to CBCF (Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation.) In part of this this made and sold two pink Dyson vacuums. The DC25 Ball Upright and the DC23 Moterhead Canister. To date the James Dyson Foundations has donated over $2 million dollars to Breast Cancer Research.
Dyson has offered one of my readers their choice of one of their Breast Cancer pink vacuums. Your choice of the DC25 Ball Upright or the DC23 Moterhead Canister!

Dyson is really a reputable brand known for quality! I like the DC25 all floors model because I have- well, all types of floors here! From my office where there is carpet, my kitchen which has tiles and my living room which has wood- anyone with those things knows, dust and fuzzies of all sorts tend to throw parties around here if you don't stay on top of it!
