Kinder Canada - Facebook Giveaway - $500 towards a staycation!

Spring Break is coming up faster than you know!  I am pretty excited because this year is the first year that our Spring Break will be two weeks long!  We have some pretty big plans this year!  We bought a 5th wheel last year, from Kris's grandparents, near the end of Summer.  We were only able to take it out once on our own after we bought it, we took it out two other times but will the rest of the family before we bought it.

This year we want to use it as much as possible.  With me working nights and weekends all the time I am hoping to save up and use all of my vacation days this Summer :)  We started a tradition last year that we hope to continue until the kids are grown.  Kris actually did this growing up.  We are going to camp, over Easter, every year, with Kris's three sisters and their families!  Last year was so much fun, it only rained a little bit on the last day, and I can't wait to do it again.  Its the kick off of camping season!  Last year there was 7 adults and 8 kids :)  Gotta love it!

I am already known as the Kinder Aunty, the kids love coming over and getting Kinder eggs, I even game them to Brandon's cousins as part of the goodie bags from his birthday.  They sure love me :)

Easter is pretty much bang in the middle of our Spring break so we should have lots of time to prep and pack up, I love making a good list, and lots of time to relax and recover afterwords!  Can't wait!  Brandon is already asking how many more sleeps until camping!

What are you big plans for Spring Break?

Please make sure you check out the Kinder Canada Facebook page!  Not only is there some great conversations going on over there but right now there is a great contest going on!  You can enter to win $500 to put towards your own Staycation!!!!!  How far can you get that to go!!  I know that would be a pretty sweet staycation for us!

Happy Valentines Day

Well was your Valentines Day all you hoped for?  I had a pretty laid back night, we aren't to big into Valentines Day.  We got the kids some chocolates but that was about it.  Occasionally Kris will buy me chocolates or we will make a nice dinner, usually at home but Valentines Day is usually so overdone and crazy out that its just not worth it.  I always told him that I would rather have a dozen red roses on the 15th of February than any on Valentines Day.

All we did was have a nice dinner at home and relax.  What did you guys all get up too?  If you are more like me and would rather cook your lobster yourself and get a coupon for a movie out then listen up!

Once again this year the good people at General Mills have partnered with their friends at Cineplex to offer Canadian families an excuse to get out of the house and enjoy a movie or snacks! How great is it to get a bonus for buying something you already love?  Not just that – but this year they’ve made it easier than ever to redeem the on-pack offer!!  All you do is make sure you have your code(s) handy and  go to cineplex.com to get your free movie tickets. Go back as often as you like with your new code(s) – the FREE** Movie Offer is valid until May 31st.

I have already collected one!  Can't wait to get my hands on some more!

Tell me about your Valentines Day, was it romantic, or are you more like me and waiting for the free movie tickets to go out? :)

Georges Skin Cream

George’s Cream Inc. is a private Canadian manufacturer and marketer of two specialty skin care products, and is owned by co-founders George Doherty and Skip Gibson. The company’s signature brand, George’s Special Dry Skin Cream, is named after its creator, George Doherty, a pharmacist and entrepreneur.

In 1997, George Doherty was asked by a dermatologist to create a rich moisturizing cream for dry skin. The criteria for George’s Cream was that it had to be richer and more moisturizing than other commercially available products yet have fewer ingredients (less irritants), no lanolin or urea and be fragrance free. George experimented with his wife’s mix master to create the original George’s Cream recipe. Eventually George enlisted the help of a local laboratory to develop and perfect a unique manufacturing process. George’s Cream was originally sold in small batches at George and Skip's Calgary pharmacy. Today it is one of the fastest growing brands in its sector and is sold through national and independent pharmacies, drug chains, grocery retailers and convenience stores across Canada.

The two specialty skin care products, George’s Special Dry Skin Cream and George’s Light Special Moisturizing Lotion were created to relieve the dry skin problems and a number of chronic skin conditions that are aggravated by the semi-arid climate in Alberta. Many factors were considered and researched to ensure that George’s Cream would contain ingredients that would provide relief for dry skin sufferers as well as those with sensitive skin. The therapeutic benefit of George’s also provides immense relief to those suffering from many other skin conditions, particularly eczema and psoriasis. As more and more dry skin sufferers found relief from George’s Cream, the word spread. “It works!” they said. Users started asking their pharmacies and favorite stores to carry George’s Cream, and as a result it has become a national brand and is recommended by dermatologists, pharmacists, caregivers and physicians across the country.

I have eczema and so does Brandon, luckily its just the two of us because its so hard to deal with.  We have tried so many different creams and lotions.  Seriously I am always going through the cupboard and throwing out bottles upon bottles!  Not only does the waste annoy me but I hate how much money I have wasted.  Its also hard when you are just dry, itchy and cranky and can't find anything that will work.

Well look no further!!  Georges works great!  Its not greasy, over scented, or overpriced.  Also, its not just for eczema, check out what else you can use it for!

• eczema

• psoriasis

• sunburn

• windburn

• cradle cap

• winter itch

• flaky skin

• tough elbow skin

• radiation therapy

• sport chafing (runners, cyclists)

• swimmer’s itch

• dry hands and cracked cuticles

• foot problems including those associated with diabetes

Check it out next time you are in your favorite store!

Bio-K+ with a Giveaway

We are well into Winter and its cold and flu season.  Probiotics are one of the options that you can use to up your immune system. When Bio-K+ contacted me about reviewing their line of probiotics I was definitely interested, the kids seem to always have some sort of cold or something and I thought this could be the missing piece that we needed.  I haven't shared to much on here about Kris's Nana but she is fighting lung cancer right now.  Basically when the probiotics arrived Nana's immune system had bottomed out from the Chemo among other things.

I decided that she needed it a whole lot more than we did.  She agreed to take the capsules everyday and although we will never know if it was ALL Bio-K+ that did it or not, but her immune system got so much stronger.  So much so that we were able to spend Christmas with her!!!!  Because that is the way life is we will never know why she got cancer, why her immune system got so strong so quickly and why she feels like a million dollars now.

Bottom line, I don't care what did it, its so worth the money, time finding the product, and anything else that has held you back in the past from trying probiotics.  If you think you can just pick up a pack of yogurt that's full of probiotics, your wrong, you will not get the same effect as if you took a bottle or pill of Bio-K+ here is why.

Unfortunately, very few products labelled as probiotics have undergone double-blind, clinical trials with their results published in peer-reviewed medical journals. The effectiveness of a probiotic is determined by the interrelationship of a whole host of factors including: strain(s), quantity, and the form in which it is prepared for consumption. Consumers should look for information from studies carried out specifically on the final product as and when it is consumed and not those merely derived from in vitro studies on isolated bacterial strains.

Basically, just because it says that it has 5 million bacteria it doesn't mean that it has that many when you eat it, there probably aren't that many left!  Bio-K+ capsules are freeze dried and do not start working until they get to your intestine because of the coating on them.  They do have a liquid option that is fresh probiotics.  We tried that as well and the kids didn't like the taste but Kris drank them, he said he didn't love them but didn't have to gag them down.  They would be great hidden in a smoothie :)

So basically you take anywhere from 1-3 capsules or 1/4 to a full bottle daily depending on your needs, and once you are happy and stable you can balance out how much you take.  Consistency is key, taking it everyday, not just when you feel sick.  Also I asked when you know when your body is happy and at a good level, she told me that the proof is in the poop.  When you are having consistently regular poops regularly then you are good :)

Bio-K+ has offered up a great giveaway!  One lucky winner if going to get a coupon for some free Bio-K+ and a water bottle.

Its Heart Month!

February is Heart month, its time for Jump rope for Heart and what better timing for the launch of the new Cheerios.ca site!   Now before we get to far into the new Cheerios site are you drooling with excitement over the latest Betty Crocker product launch?   Red Velvet Cupcakes!!!   The first nationally branded product of it’s kind and only available in Canada!  If you’d like to get your hands on a box of this goodness, run don't walk to your local grocery store and pick some up, its only available for a limited time so get some or lots and stock up now :)

Cheerios are a staple in almost all homes.  They are a great first food for babies/toddlers, kids love them, and they are great for those of us who are heart healthy and needing to keep our cholesterol down.  Now Cheerios are not just for cereal, there are so many great treats that you can make with them!  Here are a few of my favorites!

Of course you can use Cheerios in a Chex mix, but have you thought to put them on top of yogurt, or maybe a honey nut smoothie?  Who knew that you could use them to make muffins or burgers?!?!

Here is the muffin recipe, it looks sooooo good!

Ingredients:

1 cup (250 mL) mashed ripe bananas

2/3 cups (150 mL) milk

3 tbsp (45 mL) vegetable oil

1 egg

2 cups (500 mL) CHEERIOS* cereal, finely crushed

1 1/4 cups (300 mL) all-purpose or whole wheat flour

3/4 cups (175 mL) raisins

1/3 cup (75 mL) brown sugar

2 1/2 tsp (12 mL) baking powder

Method:

•Heat oven to 400°F (200°C). Spray bottoms of 12 regular size muffin cups with non-stick cooking spray.

•Combine bananas, milk, oil and egg. Stir in remaining ingredients until just moistened. Divide batter evenly among muffin cups.

•Bake 15 to 18 minutes or until golden brown. Cool 5 minutes and remove from pan.
